lessons |
I have been teaching private lessons for 20 years, and my students have been accepted into numerous programs and companies such as The Governor's School for the Arts, the Hurrah Players and Virginia Musical Theatre, as well as collegiate music programs at James Madison University, George Mason University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Christopher Newport University, and Old Dominion University.
I teach voice and piano lessons for all ages, from beginner to advanced level. Whether you are a collegiate music major hoping to brush up on or practice your skills, a younger student who is just learning how to make music, a hobbyist just looking to work on your skills, or a professional musician looking to sharpen up your chops, we can work together to help you reach your goals. I also offer specialized sessions in Audition Preparation (specifically designed to focus solely on audition materials, resume building, and audition etiquette) and Press Kit Creation (which help the student build an artistic resume, photo gallery, and an online presence for marketing). I'm also pleased to announce that I have partnered with Noelle Peterson to connect my students with a phenomenal photographer who offers headshots and portraits at reasonable rates.
Reduced rates may be considered on a case-by-case basis for families experiencing economic hardship. Additionally, two scholarship positions are available per academic school year, which are determined and awarded by audition. Scholarship students are admitted to the studio for one weekly lesson free of charge.
Update 06/26/23: I am pleased to announce we are at capacity in my studio for the time being! I am currently looking into expanding my available time slots and locations. If you'd like to join the growing waitlist, let me know you're interested in booking lessons and as time slots open up they will be offered to waitlisted students in order of first come, first served.

workshops and masterclasses
I offer 1- and 2-session choral workshops for community, church, and school choirs. Workshops are tailored to the ensemble's strengths and weaknesses as determined in a consultation with the choral director or conductor. These workshops are intended to help your ensemble tackle passages, techniques and expressions they may need to improve, establish warmups and exercises to promote growth, and fine tune select repertoire for performances and assessments. Additionally, I offer a "Choir Boot Camp" workshop designed for community, church, and nonprofessional ensembles. Each session can include lessons on basic theory, song structure, ensemble singing techniques, and diction, as well as dedicated rehearsal time to practice and demonstrate these new techniques using select pieces from your ensemble's current repertoire.
Masterclasses are offered for studios, school choirs, companies, and other ensembles. These intensive clinics allow solo performers to sing for their peers and receive feedback in the form of individual assessment, constructive criticism, and technical advice. This is a great opportunity for your selected soloists to fine tune their craft while gaining valuable performance experience. Additionally, this format allows their peers to observe a more in-depth analysis of vocal production and performance, which can provide valuable insight to their own vocal technique.
